St. Louis October 9 2003 ??? Crown Optical???s Crown Cares for Kids Program won???t be collecting just eyeglasses this fall. Instead, the area???s largest eye care company???s charitable effort will host a school supply drive for non-profit partner, KidSmart.

KidSmart has a mission to ensure that children and classrooms in the Greater Metropolitan St. Louis Area have the basic tools for learning by transferring, at no cost, the community's surplus supplies and merchandise into the hands of teachers for school children in need.
To assist in that effort, Crown Optical locations will be expanding their annual drive for donations of unneeded eyeglasses to support the Crown Cares for Kids program to include a drive for school supplies. The supplies will be donated to the KidSmart facility at 12175 Bridgeton Square Drive, where qualified teachers can shop for free to provide the students in their classrooms with the tools they need. The drive, dubbed ???Project A B See?? will provide communities throughout the region with a convenient way to contribute to both charitable programs.
???Crown Cares for Kids has long considered eyeglasses a school supply for children who need vision correction,?? explains Crown spokesperson, Marijean Jaggers. ???When we were introduced to the KidSmart concept, we knew we could help by offering other school supplies, and at the same time, get the word out to teachers and parents that there is a program available that will give children who qualify free eye care and eyeglasses.??

KidSmart???s Classroom Wish List includes new items like crayons, markers, colored pencils, pencils, calculators, scotch tape, loose-leaf paper, and similar items. ???KidSmart is my lifeline,?? explains a teacher in the St. Louis City District. ???I received hardly any materials from the school board. KidSmart provided me with the educational tools I needed to properly educate my class.?? For more information about the KidSmart organization, visit www.agift4teaching.org or call 314-291-6211.

Individuals and businesses can drop off supplies at any area Crown Optical location now through November 30. For the Crown location near your workplace or home, visit www.crownoptical.com or call 1-800-475-6320.

As the charitable component of St. Louis-based Crown Optical, Crown Cares for Kids provides eligible children through the age of 14 with an eye exam, frames and lenses free of charge. The program was created in January 1997 as a way to offer eye care services to the uninsured or to children who have exhausted their eligibility in other public health insurance programs.

Crown Optical, the area???s largest provider of eye care services is committed to providing professional, pleasurable patient experiences, one patient at a time. Crown has twenty-two Bi-State Metropolitan Area locations, each a full service optometric center offering eye health examinations, laser vision correction, contact lenses and eyeglasses.
